Europe’s Biggest Conference for Project and Portfolio Management Initiates a Paradigm Shift with AI-Supported PPM
Munich, October 30, 2025 – More than 1,300 international participants gathered at last week’s cplace Day hosted by collaboration Factory to discuss current trends in project and portfolio management (PPM). The hybrid event, which included both in-person and online elements, focused not only on specific applications for clients and the cplace roadmap but also on the use and future of artificial intelligence (AI) in PPM.
In his keynote, Dr. Rupert Stuffer, founder and CEO of collaboration Factory, highlighted the opportunities that are emerging for PPM due to the increasing adoption of AI technologies. He emphasized the potential that the upcoming changes bring for businesses, but also made it clear that ultimately, human beings must always retain the decision-making authority.
Despite AI—Humans Always Have the Upper Hand
Stuffer views AI as a superior assistance function for employees within companies. As a digital 24/7 colleague, AI serves as the perfect project assistant, an excellent software developer, and an outstanding knowledge bearer, provided that the AI models are trained with data of the highest quality. This type of support is what Stuffer and his team are integrating into the cplace platform to counteract the complexities of PPM.
Furthermore, cplace is developing the Excel Sweeper, an AI-based solution that “sucks up” Excel content like a vacuum cleaner and transfers it into cplace. The idea behind this is that in most companies, important corporate data and project plans are still stored in numerous Excel files. The task of the AI-based Excel Sweeper is to extract this information using a special coding procedure and to transfer it into the central data pool in cplace. Dr. Rupert Stuffer stated, “AI has come to stay, and the sooner companies embrace this technology, the better. Those who are willing to integrate AI into their PPM today are well-prepared to benefit from future innovations and become pioneers in the field.”
EDAG, BMW, Hitachi Rail, Roche, and Many More—Industry Leaders Showcase Their PPM
Numerous lectures, presentations, use cases, and a roundtable discussion at the cplace Day compellingly demonstrated how the targeted use of modern methods and technologies secures a crucial competitive advantage and sets new industry standards. Both renowned corporations and medium-sized enterprises shared their experiences of elevating their PPM to a new level through the use of cplace. Rupert Stuffer stated, “Our PPM event has once again impressively shown how flexibly cplace can be applied. I was thrilled to see how our clients use cplace to tackle their daily project management challenges. I am particularly pleased that our ‘No-Code, Low-Code, Pro-Code’ principle has been so well received—especially since the cplace Day provided a compelling showcase of how various business scenarios can be accurately represented using cplace.”
