How long have you been at collaboration Factory and why did you join the company?
I am part of collaboration Factory since March 2019 and really happy to be here. It was the best professional decision of my life so far.
The question, why I joined cFactory, can be answered easily. Since I see everything as a challenge – and I love challenges – I researched everything there was to find out during the application process. This way, I was able to learn a lot before the first contact, e.g. that Dr. Rupert Stuffer, a great and visionary entrepreneur, is founder and CEO of this company. Besides, I was really inspired by the future-oriented software and wanted to be part of the team that creates this solution to support digital transformation in many renowned enterprises.
In which field do you work?
Originally, I was employed as a project developer at cFactory. However, during the first few days, it became very clear that I would be a great fit for our platform team.
One day, I had a quite interesting talk with our architects about cloud integration at a social event. At the end of the day we all agreed that I could perfectly apply my previous experience in this topic to cloud projects. Since cloud integration was already an idea that had not been explored in detail yet, I was asked by Thomas and Michael, if I would like to work on cloud integration. Then I could dive right in by developing a roadmap.
What are your core responsibilities?
Since I joined the cloud team, I am responsible for the integration of cplace into a Kubernetes cloud. I focus on the stability and security of the entire application. Fortunately, cFactory is very open towards new technologies, so I can apply new Cloud Native projects here, which is really great for me.
Just for those of us, who are not a Tekkie: What are Cloud Native and Kubernetes?
Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) is part of the non-profit Linux organization and connects cloud developers all over the world, hosts important technology infrastructure components and offers certifications. Kubernetes is an open-source system hosted by CNCF that automates deployment, supports scaling and helps with managing containerized applications.
What’s the most challenging aspect of your role?
All the new cloud topics are also some of my biggest challenges. In this matter I am exchanging ideas with many other teams to find the best ways to implement individual Native Cloud topics.
What’s most rewarding about your role?
As I already mentioned, I love challenges. And that's the best part of my role: the cloud is a perfect challenge for me. I can contribute my experience and opinion, both of which are highly appreciated and supported by collaboration Factory.
Of course, I also have to mention my colleagues here. It is always fun to work together with such an excellent and competent team of super nice people. No matter, which problem or worries bother you, there is always someone who will help.
You are working at our Hanover office. What do you like about the location and your team?
I really like Hanover a lot, so I am very happy that a company like cFactory has opened an office here – right in the heart of the city.
Besides, we have a great mix of employees from different areas of the company in our office – and it's exactly this mix of different backgrounds, functions and personalities that makes our collaboration so much fun. You are always well networked and receive all the important information first-hand.
Of course, I also have to mention our famous weekly brunch buffet that we enjoy every Friday before our company meeting.
For people looking to join us in your team, what tips do you have?
I really recommend you apply to collaboration Factory, if you want to work with the #bestteam on forward-thinking technology.
Here you have the opportunity to contribute to a great team with all your strengths, experience and your personality. This is one of the major strengths of cFactory: We want to find out in which areas you thrive and support your growth in those areas.
Show us your willingness to move forward together and further expand our impact.
For people who want to learn programming – what languages can you recommend?
Of course, we are very focused on Java. However, there are also other important technologies – especially in the cloud environment – that equip you with an advantage in this area: Go and TypeScript.
You are a father of two children – how do you manage to maintain your work-life-balance and make time for your family?
Of course, it is all more complicated with children, but this is also a challenge and a really beautiful one, too.
cFactory helps me to balance my work and family life. I can easily work from home, when I have to pick up my children from kindergarten or school, for example.
Since we don't have regular working hours, we are in the happy position to work when we are focused and make time for family. This flexibility allows me to visit my daughter's school Christmas market or at the handicraft afternoon in kindergarten, for example.
To keep me fit for all of that, I try to ride the 80 kilometers to my home with my racing bike bidaily to work and back home.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I'd like to be able to teleport. This way, I could use the time I have more efficiently to meet colleagues from other offices or to visit distant places without losing a lot of time for transport and jetlags.
